Applied Physics Laboratory

The study of the structural, morphological and magnetic alloys, thin and ultrathin films, granular solids and other nanostructured materials as well as the study of surfaces and interfaces through Low energy Electrons Spectroscopy and study of solids properties by Mössbauer Spectroscopy constitute the lab objectives.

For the production of such nanostructures are used mainly the deposition techniques by Magnetron Sputtering (DC and RF) and via epitaxy by molecular beam (MBE, Molecular Beam Epitaxy). The investigations are carried out by means of techniques such as Mössbauer spectroscopy of 57Fe and 119Sn in transmission geometry or conversion electrons (CEMS), at temperatures ranging from 4 K to 900 K, by conventional analysis (X-rays diffraction and Xrays fluorescence), and analyzes using techniques of low-energy electrons spectroscopy (LEED -Low Energy Electron Diffraction, XPS -X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy), magnetometry by Kerr effect in polar and longitudinal configurations (MOKE, Magneto-Optical Kerr Effect), magnetometry by vibrating sample (VSM, Vibrating Sample Magnetometer), and magnetoresistance measurements system.
