Nuclear Spectrometry Laboratory
The Nuclear Spectrometry Laboratory -LEN began operations in 2005 and is subordinate to the Analytical Techniques Service of the Environment and Waste Division. In this laboratory, are performed radiometric measurements by the techniques of alpha spectrometry and gamma spectrometry and their applications in radiochemical characterization of low and medium activity waste samples and from nuclear power plants, geological, environmental and food samples.
Among the analytical protocols established there are the determinations of the radionuclides 3H, 14C, 55Fe,59Ni, 63Ni, 90Sr, 93Zr, 94Nb, 99Tc, 129I, 235U, 238U, 238Pu, 239Pu, 240Pu, 241Pu, 242Pu,241Am, 242Cm and 243Cm besides several gamma emitters, 7Be, 60Co, 125Sb,137Cs among others. The Laboratory has established competence to meet the demands arising from R&D projects and from Research Institutions and Enterprises.
